Vision and Mission

Vision

The research center aspires to see improved livelihood of the society through the use of technology generated and adopted.

Mission

Develop, adopt, and disseminate agro-ecologically sound improved agricultural technologies based on appropriate management and utilization of the bio-diversity and natural resources for a better living standard of the society in the region.

Organizational structure

The research center has six research directorates:

    Physical resources

    The research center is based in Gondar town and it has one sub-center at West Gondar, Genda wuha town. Similarly, the center has 5 research stations working on rainfed and irrigation research activities. Furthermore, the research center has different facilities such as a general laboratory, internet, store, meeting halls, field vehicles, and farm machinery.

    The financial support has been obtained from government and national and international collaborators.

    1. Crop research working on crop productivity improvement through breeding, agronomy, and protection.
    2. Soil and water management research working on improved agricultural water management, moisture conservation, drainage, hydrology, hydraulics, and integrated soil fertility management.
    3. Livestock research working on improved feed and nutrition development, animal breeding and animal health.
    4. Forestry research working on forestry and agroforestry for climate change mitigation.
    5. Socioeconomics and agricultural extension working on technology promotion, training need assessment and impact study, monitoring and evaluation.


    Geographical coverage

    The research center has been conducting research activities throughout West Gondar, Central Gondar, North Gondar, Welkiet Tegede Setit Humera administrative zones.

  • The technology generated on crop water requirements for onion, wheat, garlic, sesame, and tomato.
  • Improved irrigation method for potatoes, and chickpea for efficient water utilization
  • Introduction of energy-free and eco-friendly siphon pump for irrigation purposes
  • Variety identification for irrigated crops (onion, watermelon, tomato, maize, sesame, soybean, cotton, wheat)
  • Surface hydrology and climate modeling for climate-smart agriculture
  • Promotion and dissemination of selected irrigated technologies (wheat, sesame, tomato, garlic, watermelon)
  • Capacity building on irrigation water management, crop production, and technology promotion for farmers, agricultural experts, stakeholders, and partners
