Biography

Dr. Likawent Yeheyis is a lead researcher and research manager specializing in animal science. Since August 2022, he has been serving the Amhara Agricultural Research Institute as Deputy Director General. The institute is mandated to do and coordinate agricultural research (in crop, livestock, forestry, soil and water management, seed systems, and agricultural economics) in the Amhara Region, known for its mixed crop-livestock production system. I have also served the institute as livestock director. As livestock director, his responsibilities were to technically lead and manage the appropriate implementation of research projects in the areas of ruminants (dairy, beef, sheep, and goats), apiculture, poultry, and fishing, as well as the effective management and utilization of the huge livestock resource in the region. I have been technically coordinating the promotion and scaling out activities for proven livestock technologies such as the community-based sheep and goat breeding program (CBBP) since 2012. He is a specialist in animal science and has his MSc from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and his PhD from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. I hold a lead researcher position, the highest professional rank in the Ethiopian agricultural research system.
